On 23rd August 2019 Green Initiatives conducted a fun and interactive workshop ‘The Life Cycle of a Plastic Bottle’ focused on plastic pollution, for a group of 60 children in Shanghai. This activity was held as a part of the participating organizations annual family and kids day, where staff brought their kids to the office to engage them in different fun filled yet educative activities around plastic recycling and waste segregation.
The Green Initiatives team developed this special workshop based on the TED-Ed Animations film ‘What really happens to the plastic you throw away’ developed by Emma Bryce. We’ve all been told that we should recycle plastic bottles and containers. But what actually happens to the plastic if we just throw it away? In this thought-provoking story, Emma Bryce traces the life cycles of three different plastic bottles, shedding light on the dangers these disposables present to our world.
Green Initiatives has created a fun coloring booklet which asks the kids questions about the different plastics we encounter in our daily lives, and then lets them learn new facts while coloring the caricatures. The coloring booklet narrates the story of the three plastic bottles and their fate once they get thrown away. The session wraps up with sharing tips on how to reduce the use of single use plastics and how they can influence their parents to buy better products for them.
