Under the Dome: Film Screening & Discussion

The World Health Organization ranks air pollution as the top global threat to human health (link), and over 90% of the world's population is said to be living in extremely polluted conditions.

Join GIGA, creators of RESET, a global healthy building certification program, and Green Initiatives - an environmental education + action focused social enterprise based in Shanghai, for a special screening of Under the Dome, one of the most impactful films made on the devastating health and environmental impacts of air pollution.

This film screening is made possible through the support of the Singapore Sustainability Academy and Mann + Hummel. Film screening will be followed by a short discussion with experts and practitioners from the air quality space.

About the Film

During her year-long research for this self-financed film, Chai Jing visited London and Los Angeles to see how other countries have reduced air pollution through a combination of technology and law enforcement.

China’s efforts, Chai argues, are hampered by weak laws, lax enforcement, overreliance on coal, corruption, industries that set their own pollution standards and a disempowered population. Initially supported by senior officials in the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the documentary was viewed online by an estimated 200 to 300 million people across the Chinese-speaking world in a single week before it was censored.
