Nitin's talk will focus on 2 areas:
- Running an environmental organization in China and its journey over the last 10 years, and
- Air pollution - one of the gravest problems affecting people on our planet today
About Green Initiatives: On 15th January 2009, 'Green Drinks' Shanghai organized its very first monthly eco-networking event in Shanghai. On 14th December 2013, it was rebranded to Green Initiatives. On 11 January 2019, Green Initiatives (GI) celebrated its 10-year anniversary. 10 years, 500+ events, 4 recycling projects, 9 action campaigns, 25,000+ attendees, 30,000kg of textile waste & 7,000kg of electronic waste recycled, 27+ interns and 60+ volunteers later, the organization has made a serious impact in Shanghai's environmental scene.
Air Pollution: The World Health Organization ranks air pollution as the top global threat to human health (link), and over 90% of the world's population is said to be living in extremely polluted conditions.
Indonesia Air Pollution: "A Greenpeace report released in early 2019 listed Jakarta as Southeast Asia’s most polluted city. Throughout 2018, Jakarta’s PM2.5 reached 45.3 micrograms per cubic meter or more than four times the maximum standard set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and three times the maximum level allowed by the Indonesian national standard."
