Down to Earth: Green Initiatives Annual Gathering

It's a brand new year. It's winter. And it's Shanghai - wet, cold and often, gloomy. Could there be a better time to celebrate and support each other, and through music?

After our first successful and well-received musical evening Earth Speaks, Earth Listens, join Green Initiatives for our Annual Gathering as we celebrate our 11th year in operations, and bring our community together through music, connect them with each other, and show our gratitude to them for bringing us this far.

“The earth has its music for those who will listen”

Music engages our emotions, imagination, and intelligence in creative endeavours that promote personal wellbeing and social cohesion. Music connects people. Music heals. Music empowers.

The soulful music on the evening will be performed by Bone Lhamo Kyap, Ricardo Inen Vai and Greg Byler. There will be food, drinks, inspiring people and warm conversations.

And of course. It's free. Because we want to thank you for helping us get this far.

About the Musicians

Inen Vai (Ricardo Meza) is a Pampamisayoc of the Andean Inca tradition of Perú. But apart from that he wears multiple hats. He is also a Mindfulness Coach, Reiki Practitioner, Stress Management Therapist, Bio-magnetism Therapist, Energy and Sound Healer, MBSR ( Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) Program Coach, Animal Emotion Management and extremely gifted musician who plays multiple instruments. Ricard radiates loving, warm and positive energy all through his inner and outer self and is always looking to be useful to his community and people who need his help.

"SREINA", the Band The ethnic Tribal soul music of SREINA is inspired by Sangemao tribe (an ancient tribe in the South of Gansu) and the Native American spirit. SREINA is admiration for nature, heart yearning for the peace and beauty of life. The members of the SREINA band, Bone Lhamo Kyap, and John Lee are from Gansu on the Tibetan plateau.

> Bone Lhamo Kyap grew up in Gansu, he was raised by his grandmum. His grandmother's homeland is in the Zhuoni Nalang county, south of Gansu, where the Sangemao tribe have lived for generations. Each river, each rock is the deepest the deepest kindness in his life. Bone began his professional music career in Shanghai in 2010. Since then he has performed in many popular live music venues as well as music festivals in China and globally. In 2016 Bone Lhamo Kyap worked with Grammy recognized producer Michael Starita to record and produce his new singles Mother Earth is Crying and This Pitiful Life at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California, USA. His film and soundtrack “When Mother Earth Cries” is due to be released in 2019. Since 2016, Bone's performances have also been increasingly popular at Yoga studios and Yoga events.

> John Lee is native American ground drum artist from Gansu Longxi. The calling of mother mountain is the faith in his life. That sound has been teaching him how to grow. He played for Shanghai world music festival in 2014. In 2017 He and Bone Lhamo Kyap founded the band called Sreina. In the same year they joined the Shanalaya Festival in Shanghai and in 2018 Sreina played for the French Fete de la Musique Festival in Shanghai. Since then they have played in many popular music concerts in Shanghai and around. John believes he is still on his life's journey.

Greg Byler began playing guitar after graduating from high school. Self-taught from several guitar instruction books, a classical music theory textbook, and a deep well of pain, he soon began writing songs.  With very little exposure to popular music as a child and with no guidance, his style grew free from the influence of established genres and song forms, following instead an inner sensibility.  A few months of Jazz theory classes later when the songs he was writing became too difficult for him to play, he moved to Granada, Spain to study Flamenco guitar. Greg’s music combines styles in unexpected ways, offering a fresh look at familiar sounds. Bits of Folk, Americana, Flamenco, Reggae, Funk, Brazilian, Jazz and Blues woven together with a strong, underlying rhythm and a lyrical content that goes well beyond the superficial.
