Leadership in Sustainability Program

Through change and innovation, the role of the sustainability manager, owner or individual is increasingly focused on engaging teams in complex plans, fostering common ground and creating collaborations. As a sustainability specialist/enthusiast you may be required to influence your volunteer teams, cross-functional project teams, external stakeholders and senior management teams - all in a day! This course will help you build your own capacity to do this more effectively to create a more robust organisation.

Structure

This 5 session program is part of the Leadership in Sustainability Professional  placement Program brought by SSI (SUSTAINABILITY SYSTEM INITIATIVE) to Shanghai. The classes are structured with lectures, activities, discussions and projects. The time between each session allows you to test and apply key learnings. You will also meet (face to face or remotely) with other participants between the sessions to reflect on learning and coach each other on implementing  new skills. There will be an online (WeChat) platform to share ideas.

    • BUSINESS MODEL CANVAS & PITCHING SKILLS (21/June)

    Construct, discuss, innovate and pitch business in a visualized way / Get familiar with business language / Different modules in Business Model Canvas & Value Proposition Canvas / Dive in examples and try out on your own business ideas

    • GETTING THINGS DONE AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT (28/June)

    Project management techniques / Engage each other in project management / Identify the challenges of getting things done in a complex organization / self- management and learning journal.

    • COLLABORATING AND DRIVING CHANGE (05/July)

    Recognize the drive for individual behavior change/ Dynamics of change from an individual and leadership perspective /Identify ways to manage both yourself and others effectively through the process of change /Technics to influence others/ Collaborating technics

MEET YOUR LECTURERS


Lin Zhang
Director, The Natural Step
Chief Sustainability Advisor - T2L

Lin is the Chief Sustainability Advisor and Head of Advisory Services of T2L as well as a Director of The Natural Steps Operations in China.  She is a double masters degree holder in Sustainable Business Leadership (Mgmt) and in Systems on Chip (EE), both from Lund University, Sweden. Lin has rich and deep experiences across different industries in Europe and China, 10+ years in ASIC and Telecom industries both as R&D engineer and project manager (Switchcore, Ericsson) and in Corporate Development (PacketArchitects). In the recent years, Lin has gained substantial experience in  sustainability business and operation transformation through consulting projects with major players in the manufactory industry in China. Lin is also a guest lecturer in MBA program in Shanghai University and seasoned trainer and workshop facilitator.

MARIA EDUARDA SOUZA

Program Manager, Green Initiatives
Social Ecologist & Educator

Maria is a Social Ecologist, Educator and Storyteller who holds a Masters Degree in Ecology & Spirituality from Schumacher College in partnership with Trinity Saint David University in the UK. Originally from Brazil, Maria has lived in 4 continents developing environmental educational projects, having led teams and communities to cultivate meaningful actions across Brazil, Botswana, England and Thailand. As a global environmental leader with 9 years of solid experience Maria’s approach engage and explore the relation between the natural world, society and businesses. From 2009 to 2015 she worked in the Brazilian Amazon with the indigenous peoples of Alto Xingu and with the Oriximiná Conservation Unit. She has lived with the tribe and participated in political demonstrations in defense of the rights of indigenous peoples and the protection of forests in Brazil. Maria Eduarda spoke at the 13th United Nations Permanent Forum for Indigenous Issues {UNPFII} in NY. And participated together with Vice President Al Gore at the Climate Reality Leadership Corps Training to learn how we can lead the global fight for climate solutions. In 2013 she moved to Botswana, Africa, where she documented the conservation and environmental education work of Children In The Wilderness. Maria has co-facilitated the year long programme “Becoming Indigenous” at Schumacher College (UK). Between 2017/18 she spent 1,5 years based in Bangkok, Thailand working with social environmental projects and the non profit Traidhos Tree Generation. As a storyteller, Maria has produced and directed the documentary SEEDS for the organisation non profit Knowledge Transfer who improves farmers' incomes by sharing technical knowledge of farming practices. Since 2015 Maria writes monthly articles for the Autossustentável network, she writes on the subjects of sustainability, indigenous people, activism, ecofeminism and ecology.
