International Women’s Day (IWD) has arrived, and more attention can be poured onto a problem which is almost invisible by virtue of always being in view. In unison with this year’s IWD theme, #BreakTheBias, we want to praise, not condemn, celebrate some of the many personalities within our community who are proving inspiration to those around them - people who excel at showing glass ceilings are there to be shattered.
We can live in the same community, share the same food, enjoy the same comforts, learn to use the same skills, but society still prevents us from experiencing equal liberties.
“Masculine and feminine roles are not biologically fixed but socially constructed.”
At Green Initiatives we continue the journey to recognize and highlight the arduous work of women in our community striving to create a better world through their actions. Now in its third year, we first lauded the work and achievements of women change-makers through an article in 2020.
This initial listing featured over 80 female social entrepreneurs and community leaders. Our 2021 Edition then highlighted 100 women, all in either the social, or sustainability sphere.
This time we are featuring 60 Superwomen. This list is not intended to be comprehensive, but to reflect the individuals brought to our team’s attention over the past 3 months. If you haven’t been featured, we wholeheartedly apologise. However, to continue growing, we would love you to nominate anyone worthy of inclusion in future editions – by filling in this form.
So, here is that list... in alphabetical order. Please read, share, connect and help support the work of these amazing women.
