The Shift from Green Buildings to Healthy Buildings
- 21-04-2015 19:00 - 21:00
- Swanport Café, Beijing
While we are all aware of the air pollution problems that are increasingly confronting our cities and the health of its citizens, have we ever wondered how it impacts our interior spaces? How our buildings react, not just to the ‘airpocalypse’, but also to the wide palette of materials that go into its construction and decoration, that are continuously ‘off-gasing’ hazardous chemicals that are an even bigger threat to occupant health and wellness?
Raefer’s presentation will cover all this and more, as a result of his extensive experience on sustainability focused building projects, material research and building certifications in China over the last decade.
About the Speaker:
Raefer Wallis is the Founder and CEO of GIGA, as well as the Principal of A00 Architecture. Bridging the gap between IT, material science and the built environment, his software is used by the world’s largest developers and design firms while being designed to accelerate environmental regeneration. Recipient of numerous awards for design and design sustainability, he lectures extensively both in China and Internationally. He received his masters degree in Architecture at McGill University in Montreal, Canada prior to setting up his Shanghai practice in 2004.
GIGA’s ecosystem comprises of:
- GIGA (www.gigabase.org) is an independent third-party specialized in building material research and cloud software. GIGA's integrated team of architects, engineers, software programmers, chemists, and researchers work in partnership with current licensed Users to deliver user-designed tools and solutions that are most needed and market relevant. GIGA is focused on bringing solutions to the world's largest construction market and has been adopted by designers from more than 60 of the world's leading design firms.
- RESET™ (www.reset.build) is a project certification focused on Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and Health. Launched in 2009 as a system for benchmarking healthy building materials, RESET™ is now being released in stages for use in projects. Using a globally accessible VOC calculator and a database of compliant materials, RESET™ is pioneering research on the cumulative impact of materials within an enclosed space.
- MATTER (www.matter.build) completely redefines how knowledge of materials is tracked, from design through construction, enabling users to become more intelligent with every project. This saves time, avoids the repetition of costly mistakes and increases ROI. Most importantly, it increases what has become the most valuable asset: knowledge. With MATTER it's easy to maintain brand and construction standards while managing new store, office or hotel openings or retrofits anywhere in the world.
