This years Eco Design Fair 2015 Workshop Series has been announced, and the themes are more relevant and engaging than ever!
Attendance for all these workshops is completely free. Please make sure to visit the EDF Main Stage several minutes before the scheduled workshop time.

Workshop 1: A Journey of Water, Views from the Universe
Time: 14:40-15:00 June 6th; 16:00-16:30 June 7th
Title: A full-hi-vision program portraying the journey of water with a point of view looking at the earth from the universe
Speaker: Ikai Mayumi
Bio/Profile: The earth is called the planet of water, due to the perfect and miraculous distance to the sun. Water is an existence essential to all the creatures on the earth. The program portrays a tale of a long history of water tracing the origin of sea, the change of water vaporizing from the seawater and circulating to cloud and forest, and the travel crossing borders.
As water is precious as a source of life, we, creatures, co-exist, sharing the water. The program warns the influence that the contemporary society is giving to the earth and the water environment and on the other hand, introduces activities anybody can do for the environment that the world is paying attention to. It is CG animation program with a hope that everyone re-acknowledges the importance of water that every audience from adult to child can enjoy.
Workshop 2: Biking Forward for Future Forward Cities
Time: 11:15 - 11:45; June 6th
Speaker: Carmen Vercauteren
Bio/Profile: Through this workshop Carmen will outline GoodtoChina's goal to make sustainable living accessible to everyday Chinese urban residents and aims to promote informed and socially responsible behaviour through fun, inspiring disciplines and action oriented activities.
Carmen is a freelance Industrial Ecologist with a big heart and a scientific mind. With her care and insight she aims to create opportunities for a flourishing world, and inspires others to join her. She has a strong affinity and knowledge base in food and urban agriculture. This supports her personal mission to bring change in food consumption, and dreams of a future in which everyone has access to sustainable and healthy food. From a young age on Carmen is fascinated with nature and ecology. This inspiration by nature has led her to a deep passion for working towards sustainability. Exploring and discovering are two aspects central in Carmen’s life; only by getting to the bottom of things she can satisfy her curiosity.
Carmen, born in Belgium, has a Master of Science in Industrial Ecology from Leiden University and Delft University of Technology, and a Bachelor in Industrial Design from Antwerp University. She recently moved to Shanghai to continue her work on sustainability in China - working with and for Good to China is part of that mission.
Workshop 3: Food Safety
Time: 14:00 - 15:00; June 6th
Speaker: Crystal Ghao She
Bio/Profile: Crystal harbors enthusiasm for philanthropy and environmental protection. She initiated the charitable self-media: GhaoGS, and is also the founder of POSUL (Pioneer of Sustainable Urban Life), which promotes the farming approach of no turn over, no weeding or no disinsection. The operation manager of S.H.Eliving, she advances the concepts of sustainability, health and education. A devotee of traditional Chinese culture, also one of the few Chinese core members of the team EDF, she is dedicated to the combination of Chinese and western sustainability notions and the promotion of the "Ganghao" way of living to more people.
Workshop 4: A Mindful Journey
Time: 15:30 - 17:00; June 6th
Speakers: Dr.Colleen Symmes, Naturopath; Alvaro Esteban, Yoga Master; Fionn Wright, Lifestyle Coach.
Bio/Profile: People often think that we have to make big changes in life to be happy and healthy. Actually, our happiness and health depend on small daily decisions. The Mindful Journey is an experiential adventure through your average hurried day. From the moment you wake to the time you sleep, Octave wellbeing practitioners Alvaro, Colleen and Fionn will help you make the best choices. We provide easy, practical tips to use throughout the day and beyond. Ultimately, you will walk away with a new mindset that jumpstarts you towards optimal health and happiness.
Dr. Colleen Symmes, Naturopath
A Naturopathic Doctor & Wellness Innovator from Canada, Dr. Colleen Symmes specializes in naturopathic medicine and adjunct oncology treatment, which features using natural therapies to reduce side effects & improve efficacy of conventional treatment.
Alvaro Esteban, Yoga Master
Alvaro first encountered yoga as a teenager, and never looked back. Over the years, he has enhanced his yoga knowledge through the study of dance, Alexander Technique and the Feldenkrais Method. Alvaro maintains a multi-disciplinary approach to his practice with continued study of different traditions under the guidance of accomplished masters. Now, Alvaro is a mind-body practitioner as well as yoga instructor, educator and artist.
Fionn Wright, Lifestyle Coach
After graduating double valedictorian at age 16, Fionn got a degree in International Business, studied at Shanghai’s Jiaotong University and worked all over the world as a business trainer and personal coach. He became the youngest Neuro-linguistic Programming and Neuroscience Coach in the world, founded three personal development companies and became a bilingual Chinese TV personality seen by over 100 million people.
Workshop 5: Earth Water: ON THE WAY
Time: 18:00 - 18:30
Speaker: Ms. Sude
Bio/Profile: Earth Water ON THE WAY: Endorsed by UNESCO, the Earth Water Project has been supporting clean water improvement in China in partnership with Modern Media Group. By tour exhibitions, press conference and creative designs each year, we are so proud that around 9000 children from 15 schools and institutions had cleaner water because of our projects in China. So far, over 80 Chinese celebrities have joined the project and we invite you to be part of it. You never drink alone!
Sude was born in 1981 in Shanghai and graduated from Chinese language department, East China Normal University. As member of Chinese Writers’ Association, she has published 8 novels so far. She joined Modern Media Group in 2010 and is now working as Publisher and Editor-in-chief of LOHAS Magazine. She has been very active in LOHAS area, attending lots of lohas events in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Japan and Korea.
Workshop 6: 1% For the Planet
Title: One Percent For the Planet: An introduction to Patagonia, the company's design philosophy and their nonprofit project.
Speaker: Zhao Hong
Bio/Profile: 1% for the Planet is a nonprofit started by Patagonia and connects businesses, consumers, and nonprofits, empowering all of us to drive big, positive change. In an uncertain world, these connections allow you and me to do more for our big blue planet than we can alone. Founded by Yvon Chouinard in 1973, Patagonia is an outdoor apparel company based in Ventura, California. A certified B-Corporation, Patagonia’s mission is to build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm and use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis. The company is recognized internationally for its commitment to authentic product quality and environmental activism, contributing over $61 million in grants and in-kind donations to date.
Workshop 7: Cycle City
Time: 16:20 - 17:10; June 7th
Speaker: Gavin Lohry
Bio/Profile: Why Shanghai is poised to become a major cycling city and how each new rider helps.
Gavin Lohry started his career working in Civil Engineering for the U.S. Air in Korea and Japan starting in 2005. In 2010, he attended Tsinghua University to receive his MPA in International Development, while writing about eco-cities in China. After graduation, Mr. Lohry moved to Shanghai and helped start the Urban Development and Transport Information Program at CESG- Shanghai. Mr. Lohry now works at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill Architectural Consultants in Shanghai where he focuses on research and strategy in China. Outside of work, he can be found cycling around Shanghai, exploring bikeshare system in other cities or online writing about the development of Chinese cities at www.urbanmobilitychina.com
