Earth Day 2017 @ American Culture Center, USST
- 21-04-2017 14:00 - 17:00
- American Culture Center, Shanghai
Earth Day Celebrations are back at the American Culture Center at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology.
Earth Day 2017’s Campaign is Environmental & Climate Literacy
Education is the foundation for progress. We need to build a global citizenry fluent in the concepts of climate change and aware of its unprecedented threat to our planet. We need to empower everyone with the knowledge to inspire action in defense of environmental protection.
Environmental and climate literacy is the engine not only for creating green voters and advancing environmental and climate laws and policies but also for accelerating green technologies and jobs.
This Earth Day, gather with your community for an Environmental & Climate Literacy Teach-In or another project focused on education. We are launching Earth Day and Teach-In toolkits that will lay out the steps for holding a successful event. Register your event with us and we will support you with promotion and advice.

Background: Winnie is the Communications Director for Bits x Bites, where she shapes the PR and thought leadership program. Winnie also serves as a communications lead at Green Initiatives, a Shanghai-based environmental group. Before becoming a voice in the good food movement, she spent 10 years working in audio technology in the San Francisco Bay Area, following tours of bands like Metallica and Michael Buble while putting a spotlight on technical applications and audio engineers’ work behind the scenes.
Feel free to ask Winnie anything about Bits x Bites, their approach as a social enterprise accelerator, and how you can apply to their upcoming first program.
Subject: Zero waste living in China - aspirational or achievable?
Background: Alizee has been living and working in Shanghai for over a year and a half. Originally from Belgium, she was spoiled with a healthy lifestyle and, nutritious and organic food. While looking at ways to reduce her environmental footprint and researching about Circular Economy, she came across several stories of like-minded people leading a zero-waste lifestyle, and was inspired to do the same. She is now almost one year into her zero-waste challenge and after multiple requests she started a blog to document this new lifestyle and share her tricks and tips with others. So far this lifestyle has brought her a lot of satisfaction and happiness, as it allows her to align her actions with her values. She says, "Although I am still not 100% zero waste, I am getting there and I’m proud of it!"

In Kenya he also imported and distributed hospital equipment and worked with the US State Department Kenya Transition Initiative in government reform and conflict.
